It should be easy to setup git-cvsserver running nearby the main git
tree, or even gitweb with "snapshots" enabled, producing tarballs of
current trunk.

Recently I pushed some patches from Debian package back to libssh2 and
had to install the CVS for it. git was in first " apt-get install ..."
on the new laptop :)
